UNLAB is an international office devoted to architecture. It is established in Rotterdam (NL), with branches in Venice (IT) and Tirana (AL) founded in 2008 and led by Andreas Faoro. Since then, Francesca Rizzetto joined the office working in partnership on many projects. UNLAB deliberately works exploring and investigating historical knowledge produced by the past, leading to a continuous scanning of the world that surrounds us.

The firm works internationally on projects ranging from interior design, residential, commercial, mixed-use private, public buildings, and masterplans.

UNLAB operates within the contemporary art and architecture realm and has collaborated with different offices: Grimshaw (UK), XDGA (BE), Stefano Boeri Architetti (IT), MGM Arquitectos (ES), IND (NL), studio eu (DE), Lucy HORTA (FR), Maria Papadimitriou (GR), Carsten Nicolai (DE), Crimson – Wouter Vanstiphout (NL) and public institutions such as TU/Delft, T?F The Why Factory, IUAV Istituto Universitario di Architettura Venezia, Berlage Institute, Politecnico di Milano, MDA, Domus Academy, Polytechnic University of Tirana – Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Iowa State University College of Design, USI -Università della Svizzera Italiana.

In 2018 UNLAB has been awarded with the EURASIA PRIZE (Ekaterinburg – Russia) for the new General Urban Plan of Tirana. UNLAB has been also awarded by UNHabitat and UIA (International Union of Architects) in 2014 with the First Prize (NL) for the Mass/Public/Social Housing International Competition, presented and exhibited at the 7th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF7, April 5-11 / 2014) in Medellín (Colombia). Moreover, the office has promoted and developed research-projects within the European cultural programs framework, together with universities, public and private institutions in Europe and abroad. UNLAB members are also engaging with teaching activities, at TUDelft – BK (Faculty of Architecture), University of Architecture Venice (IUAV), Mendrisio Academy of Architecture. Currently, the office is working on projects in the Netherlands, Italy, and Albania offering consultancies to private developers as well as municipalities and other public institutions about urban and architectural issues.

UNLAB has been rewarded with different international prizes for architectural and urban projects, while it has recently engaged in the development of strategic visions, plans, and projects for cities and urban areas worldwide. The office gained renown through key projects such as Pendrecht Regeneration masterplan (Rotterdam south), Expo Logistic Park (Taranto, Italy), Osumi Island (Berat, Albania), the Park of Faith, and the new General Urban Plan of Tirana.

Andreas Faoro

Andreas Faoro is an architect and urban designer. After graduating at the IUAV University of Architecture of Venice, he obtained a Post-graduate Master degree in Architecture and Urbanism at the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam. His theoretical and practical work focuses on the relationship between, politics, economy and large-scale urban design issues, exploring the conflicting and often paradoxical transformation of cities and urban environments. Since 2003 Andreas has collaborated with different international architectural offices. Next to the professional activity, he has experience in teaching architecture and urban design programs at different Universities and Cultural Institutions. Parallel to the design projects, he is intensely engaged with, writing, and research, activities that are an integral part of his engagement with architecture and urbanism. Andreas is also active in offering consultancies to municipalities and agencies concerned with urban planning and architectural issues. His professional experience has moved across a broad range of scales and disciplines including architecture, urban and landscape design.  He has taken part as coordinator, project manager, and scientific advisor in several European Culture projects. His work has been exhibited at the Louisiana Museum in Denmark: Frontiers of Architecture III-IV Living (2011), in France at the 10th Biennale de Lyon: “Le spectacle du quotidian”, and published in different magazines (Domus, Abitare, A10, FRAME).

UNLAB is seeking international architecture students or recently graduates for a six months internship:

The intern will be part of our project teams and will be supporting the project leaders with a variety of different tasks: 2D and 3D drawings, model making and graphic presentations.

Skills & Qualifications required:
– Architectural education with minimum a bachelor degree in architecture, engineering and/or urban planning
– Excellent 2D-3D and graphic skills.
– Rendering skills and familiarity with 3D modeling
– Model-making and craft skills
– Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in team
– Fluent in English
– Pro-active and motivated
